Network Attached Storage Network Attached Storage servers are plug-and-share direct network-attached devices. They use a thin-server with embedded multi-protocol software to connect the device directly to the network. The thin-server, or "sled", contains the operating system of the unit in easily upgradable firmware. There are many different models of NAS servers. With the passage of time, units have increased in storage capacity and speed. The capabilities of the unit are determined by the sled. The chart below lists all the sleds, the models that use a particular sled, and the model number of the particular unit. If you do not know the model number of your unit, please use the sled information to find the technical information for your unit.
