Installing a legal research program

Martindale-Hubbell
Stand-Alone PC Installation
Each Martindale-Hubbell disc, or disc series, must be individually installed. This means that the setup.exe program must be run from each disc, or the first disc in the series.

  1. Insert the disc into a local CD-ROM, or Virtual CD-ROM, drive bay.
  2. Click on Start.
  3. Select Run.
  4. Type the command X:\setup.exe (where X is the letter of the drive bay where the disc is inserted).
  5. Follw the screen prompts to complete the installation.

Network Installation
Each Martindale-Hubbell disc, or disc series, must be individually installed. This means that the setup.exe program must be run from each disc, or the first disc in the series.

  1. Map a drive to the virtual volume of the Virtual CD/DVD Server
  2. Open My Computer, and the mapped drive\CD Data disc (ex: V:\US)
  3. Double-click on the setup.exe icon. This utility is being accessed from across the network, so it may take a minute before the Install Shield/Setup program begins to run.
  4. Follow the screen prompts to complete the installation.
    1. You will be prompted to enter a Username and/or Company name for registration purposes. To accept the software licensing agreement you must enter your initials and click on the Accept button.
  5. Select the type of installation: Single User or Network Installation.
  6. Click on the Finish button when prompted.
  7. Repeat these steps for each disc or disc series.

If multiple workstations are being set up with local program installations (i.e.; each workstation has its own independent copy of the program) this process must be done on each workstation. In the interest of saving time, it may be easier to use the physical CD to add the title to the Martindale-Hubbell library, and then use the mh_inst.ini file to modify the path to reflect the network mapping.

  1. Install each disc, or disc series using the physical CD, on each workstation.
  2. After installation is complete, use the Windows Explorer to browse to, and open the C:\MHLAW40 directory.
  3. Open the mh_inst.ini file. Use Notepad or Wordpad if prompted.
  4. Edit the file to point to the CD-ROM data disc on the network. The sample file below offers two ways of doing this. The first path assumes that the virtual volume of the Virtual CD/DVD Server is mapped to V:\. The second uses a UNC path.

Martindale-Hubbell suggests:
Disable Anti-Virus programs before starting the installation. Some anti-virus programs prevent the proper registration of program files needed for the CD-ROM. You can scan the discs for viruses prior to installation.
